Optica Freeform Optics Industry Summit at Optimax

We have an impressive lineup of over 30 top-level speakers from all over the world. Do you need a reality check of your technology and connect with end users from top companies such as Meta, ASML or NASA? This closed IN PERSON ONLY event is the place to forge meaningful connections and partnerships.

Discussions led by industry experts, including keynote speakers Jannick Rolland, Director of the Center for Freeform Optics, Maham Aftab from ASML, Steve Omecinski from Coherent Corp, and Barry Silverstein from Meta, (Senior Director Optics and Display Research), and Jim Kafka, Spectra-Physics / MKS, Emeritus Fellow, will focus on the complexities of integrating freeform optics into larger optical systems and subsystems.

These discussions will center around topics such as surface roughness control, tooling optimization, and process automation. How can we streamline manufacturing workflows and reduce production costs while maintaining high precision and quality standards.

Expect topics such as optical alignment, system calibration, and tolerance analysis will be addressed, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary collaboration between Optica corporate members and more advanced simulation tools. Because we need to optimize system performance, spot imperfections early and mitigate integration risks.

Let's explore 5 key dilemmas and roadblocks facing the freeform optics industry together in Ontario, NY.

Sessions

Metrology Solutions for Freeform Optics

How can we offer a clear message to the customer if the metrology of freeform optics still is not standardized?

Xavier Colonna De Lega from Zygo/Ametek, Robert Smythe from Apre, Kaitlin Dunn from DIOPTIC, Yoann Priol from Phasics, and Cormic Merle from Arizona Optical Metrology, will explore innovative metrology techniques vital for maintaining precision in freeform optics manufacturing. They will also address the challenges of adapting traditional metrology methods to accommodate the unique geometries of freeform optics, ensuring accuracy and maximizing reliability in measurement.

Expanding the business of Freeform Optics for Space and Aeronautics

Traditionally Aerospace has been the main market for freeform Optics. However, if you have followed the recent discussions related to New Space at Optica, you will know that there many new challenges. Joseph Howard from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Bryan Stone from Synopsys and Eric Ruch from Safran Reosc will drive discussions on the challenges and opportunities of integrating freeform optics into space exploration and aeronautical applications. We expect to touch upon issues such as thermal stability, radiation resistance, and the need for lightweight, robust and compact optical systems that can withstand the harsh environments of space- and air-born missions.

Freeform Optics for Beam Shaping & Imaging

Beyond space, there is a growing demand of freeform lenses in other fields. Calin Hrelescu from Vanguard automation, Roy McBride from Power Photonic and Kishor Ramaswamy from Ansys will address fields like automotive, telecom and defence. With them, we will discuss the complexities of designing freeform optical surfaces as well as the challenges of scaling up production to meet market demands.

Manufacturing Methods

Steve Omecinski from Coherent Inc. and Oliver Fӓhnle from PanDao will share insights into innovative manufacturing methods, from diamond turning to additive manufacturing, driving the evolution of freeform optics production. One of the highlights will be to explore the advantages of different manufacturing methods with Michael Gregory form Optimax, Mark Palvino from LightPath, Nelson Claytor from Fresnel Technologies, Juan Acevedo from Reynard Corporation, Simon Thiele from PrintOptix, Christian Schindler from Buhler and Dave Mohring from Optipro.

These are just a few of the critical topics that will shape the future of freeform optics, and your participation is essential in driving these conversations forward.
