  • Kurt Busch, Journal of the Optical Society of America B (JOSA B)is a professor of Theoretical Optics & Photonics and Chairman of the Institute of Physics at the Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany, and is a group leader at the Max-Born-Institute for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy, Berlin, Germany. An OSA Fellow, Busch served as a Topical Editor for JOSA B for six years and then became Deputy Editor in 2017.  Busch takes over the lead editorial role from Grover Swartzlander, Rochester Institute of Technology, New York, USA, who successfully led the Journal for the last six years. Remarking on his appointment, Busch stated, “I have thoroughly enjoyed working as an editor for JOSA B and find it rewarding to assist authors in improving their work for publication. In this new role, my goal is to ensure that JOSA B continues to serve as a trusted resource for high-quality fundamental research related to light-matter interaction.”
  • James Leger, Optics Express (OpEx), is a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Minnesota, USA, where he holds the Cymer Professorship for Advanced Optical Systems, Metrology, and Lasers, and the Taylor Distinguished Professorship.  He is a Fellow of OSA, IEEE and SPIE and the 1998 recipient of OSA’s Joseph Fraunhofer Award/Robert M. Burley Prize.  Leger has served on the OpEx Editorial Board for nearly 15 years as an Associate, Deputy and Senior Deputy Editor. Prior to his work with OpEx, he also served as a Topical Editor for Applied Optics.   Leger succeeds Andrew M. Weiner, Purdue University, Indiana, USA, who successfully served as Editor-in-Chief from 2013 - 2018. When asked about his new role, Leger stated, “I am honored to be a part of a dedicated and prestigious team to serve Optics Express. It has been a privilege to watch and participate in the growth of the Journal since its debut more than twenty years ago. A new generation of researchers has grown up with Optics Express, so I welcome the opportunity to ensure that we attract the best work from all segments of our field.”

Commenting on these appointments, Elizabeth Nolan, deputy executive director and chief publishing officer, The Optical Society stated, “We are very grateful to Prof. Swartzlander and Prof. Weiner for their hard work and dedication to the Journal of the Optical Society of America B and Optics Express over the last 6 years, and we are delighted that Prof. Busch and Prof. Leger have been promoted to the Editor-in-Chief position of their respective journals.  Both of these exceptional individuals bring a wealth of experience to their new editorial roles, and I am confident that their strong leadership, technical expertise, and knowledge of scientific publishing will ensure the continued success of the Journal of the Optical Society of America B and Optics Express.”
