About OSA

Members, volunteers and staff celebrating OSA's centennial in 2016. Bravitutti! Good job, everyone!

“The Optical Society shares advances in the science of light globally through its first-rate publications, programs and outreach activities. Connecting professionals from around the world, communicating with diverse audiences, and incorporating early career scientists into our community are at the heart of the Society’s mission.”
Ursula Gibson, 2019 OSA President

The Optical Society in 2030

Through a series of engagement activities led by 2018 OSA President Ian Walmsley, members, volunteer leaders and staff worked collaboratively to develop a vision of how OSA will frame the future of optics and photonics research, collaboration, education, and advocacy into 2030 and beyond.

The OSA 2030 Green Paper outlines the vision for the Society and while this document provides an overview of the collective thinking of a range of Society members and volunteers, it is only a beginning. OSA’s greatest strength is its member-driven collaboration, and the Board encourages each Society member to add his or her own insights and opinions to the conversation. Please join the OSA Board of Directors’ challenge to frame OSA’s future for 2030 and beyond.

We invite you to forward your comments and suggestions to the OSA Board via OSAPresident@osa.org.
