AIO 2018: Focus on Dr. Cheng Zhang, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), USA

Cheng Zhang is a CNST/UMD Postdoctoral Researcher in the Nanofabrication Research Group. He received a B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Shandong University, China in 2010, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 2016.

Big Data in Cultural Heritage Imaging Incubator - Day 2

The second day of the OSA Incubator on Big Data in Cultural Heritage Imaging focused on an in-depth discussion on the sessions from the day before including: spectroscopic macro or rempote mapping modalities; large data set analysis tools; and micro imaging modalities. The group was also hosted by the National Gallery of Art for a tour of their lab!

AIO 2018: Focus on Dr. Stefano Bonora, INFM-CNR, Padova, Italy

Dr Bonora has developed a research line in the design, realization and application of deformable mirrors. During this activity he collaborated with many foreign and Italian institutes supplying them adaptive optics systems for ultrafast laser compression and shaping, for high power laser focusing and medical imaging.

AIO 2018: Focus on Dr. Thomas Laurent, Eagleyard Photonics GmbH, Germany

Dr. Thomas Laurent graduated with a Diploma in Physical Chemistry. His first contact with laser diodes (literally) was when opening up a 5W Coherent Verdi Laser. Exactly that device ensured his PhD thesis researching ultrafast femtosecond processes – to which he was attracted ever since. He will be in Orlando talking about Qualifying Active Components for Space and LIDAR Applications.

AIO 2018: Focus on Dr. John W. Berthold, Davidson Instruments, Inc, USA

John W. Berthold received the B.A. degree in physics from Gettysburg College and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in optical sciences from the University of Arizona, Tucson. He has fifty years experience in optics research, thin film coatings, and sensors, and is internationally recognized for many contributions in the development of fiber optic sensors.

Additionally, you can find great job opportunities here. We have had attendees who met their new employer at AIO in the past and they even seem to be very happy in their new jobs.
