Next generation coherent optical systems are expected to deliver high data rates to meet the increase of traffic demands driven by the emergence of high bandwidth applications, such as Internet of Things, 4K video streaming, and online gaming. Different technologies have been proposed and investigated for next generation 400G, 800G, and 1.6T systems. In this webinar, we review the most promising techniques including, advanced modulation formats and coding, fiber nonlinearity mitigation, and space division multiplexing. All demonstrations will be performed in VPIphotonics Design Suite.
Dr. Abdelkerim Amari, Senior Application Engineer, VPIphotonics
Abdelkerim Amari received his Engineering degree in Signals and Systems from Tunisia Polytechnic School, Tunis, Tunisia in 2012. He received his Ph.D. in Optical Communication from Télécom ParisTech, Paris, France in 2016. Abdelkerim worked as a Post-Doctoral researcher at Memorial University and University of British Colombia in Canada, and Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands between 2016 and 2019. His research works focus on digital signal processing, probabilistic shaping and coding, and machine learning for optical communication systems. Dr. Ilias Giakoumidis, Project Manager, VPIphotonics
Ilias Giakoumidis received his PhD in Optical Communications in 2012 from Bangor University of Wales (UK) in collaboration with Athens Information Technology (Greece). Ilias has worked as a postdoctoral researcher in various prestigious optical communications research groups that include Télécom ParisTech, Aston University, University of Sydney and Dublin City University. In 2020, Ilias joined the Optical Systems Technical Team at VPIphotonics as a Project Manager. His research interests span advanced modulation formats and transmission techniques, digital signal processing and machine learning for physical-layer optical communication systems.
