Monolithic coherent receivers in photonic BiCMOS technology (NeF1B.1)
Presenter: Lars Zimmermann, IHP GmbH

With coherent communication moving toward shorter distances in the realm of data center interconnects, new challenges arise for coherent receivers. This talk shall review our development of monolithically integrated implementations in photonic BiCMOS technology.

On-chip Inductive Peaking to Boost the Silicon Modulator Bandwidth (NeF1B.2)
Presenter: Souvaraj De, Technische Universitat Braunschweig

We present a new method for increasing the bandwidth of integrated electro-optic modulators by compensating the large intrinsic junction capacitance and on-chip inductive peaking. Simulation shows a bandwidth enhancement of more than 30%.

Power-Efficient WDM Transceivers Based on Membrane III-V Lasers on Si (NeF1B.3)
Presenter: Hidetaka Nishi, NTT

InP-based membrane directly modulated lasers and photodetectors are integrated with SiN WDM filters on Si substrates, which exhibit low power consumption, small footprint, and integrability, and show potential towards over 400G WDM datacenter interconnection applications.

Athermal Travelling Wave Mach-Zehnder Modulators for Optical Interconnects (NeF1B.4)
Presenter: Souvaraj De, Technische Universitat Braunschweig

We design a PN junction-based Travelling Wave Mach-Zehnder modulator with an air-filled deep trench region to enhance the electro-optic bandwidth. A data rate up to 50 Gbps has been achieved without deploying any pre-compensation.

Multi-dimensional EDFA Gain Spectrum Optimization for Increasing WDM System Capacity (NeF1B.5)
Presenter: Yihao Zhang, Shanghai Jiao Tong University State Key Laboratory of Advanced Optical Communication System and Networks

A multi-dimensional EDFA gain spectrum optimization scheme based on the penalty method with gradient descent is proposed to increase the capacity of a WDM system. A gain of 5.47% on capacity is achieved in simulations. © 2021 The Authors
