How to control infrared light with phonon polaritons: a tutorial
18 February 2020
Eastern Time (US & Canada) (UTC - 05:00)
Phonon polaritons (PhPs) emerge from the strong interaction between infrared (IR) photons within a spectral band and the atomic lattice vibrations (phonons) in ionic or ionic-like materials. In the vicinity of phonon polaritons extraordinary photonic responses are available; high-permittivity, near-zero permittivity (ENZ) as well as plasmonic-like properties are possible. This webinar tutorial will take the attendee from the basics of PhP photonic responses to current advanced PhP paradigms and metamaterials reporting on extreme IR light control. These platforms unleash new capabilities to harness IR light impacting a range of modern applications and gave rise to the emerging and growing field known as phonon polaritonics.
