University of Strathclyde GEMM Centre launch

The Optical Society (OSA) joined high-level government representatives, industry leaders, and scientists from Scotland and around the world for the launch of a new multidisciplinary climate-research center as part of the Global Environmental Measurement and Monitoring (GEMM) Initiative, OSA’s flagship international public policy effort. The Strathclyde center combines the university’s strengths in economics, law, optics and geophysics to better understand Scotland’s resources and their usage and impacts. Participants were joined by the GEMM Initiative’s new partner, the American Geophysical Union (AGU), an international Earth and space science society of 60,000 members.
