1. Describe the profound impact your technology – as part of an end-user product – has had on Society.  How has the population been impacted by your technology. This could be behavioral, economical, societal, etc.
JDC has developed LCoS micro-displays with digital modulation, and small pixel based backplanes to fulfill versatile display and non-display markets. The video market is turning to the 4K2K era and JDC provides solutions for future home video solutions, featuring its unique digital modulation in conjunction with compact pixels to produce 0.7” diagonal UHD 4K2K LCoS micro-displays and an associated controller. LCoS “Diffractive Optical Element” devices have become key components in leading edge telecommunications equipment such as ROADM switches and for other industrial purposes. Jasper Display Corporation has developed LCoS microdisplays for phase only modulation technology applications, using its small pixel based backplanes.
2. Tell us about how your technology is unique?  What makes it stand out? How do you differentiate it from other similar technologies?
  • Pixel Size:  Small pixel (Picture Element) design (3.74 µm x 3.74 µm) is a platform which enables small displays with medium resolution and larger displays with high to very high resolution.
  • Digital Circuit Techniques: Enable high yield and outstanding performance, resulting in high pixel-plane update speeds and voltage levels consistent with mainstream LC electro-optic mode requirements.
  • Efficient Architecture: A highly efficient and precise pulse width modulation system provides highly refined control over the liquid crystal modulation state.
  • Optimized Modulation: JDC’s proprietary modulation techniques result in sharp images with superior gray scale performance and better overall color calibration.
  • Performance: JDC’s digital pixel and backplane designs enable effective DC balance at a very high rate without image flicker, image sticking or other display artifacts exhibited by other technologies.
3. When first launched, did your technology make a transformational change for the end-user or was it an advancement of the prior art? Describe this.
On-Silicon Technology: Pixel as a Platform
Transformational change in pixel size when it is first launched in 2002 is 12um and now it is 3.74um
12 um @2002
8.0 um @2004
6.4 um @2006
5.0 um & 4.0 um @2007
3.74 um @2013
  • World class – the smallest pixel pitch at 3.74um with leading 6.4um, 8um platform.
  • Flexible driving for different applications ranging from 8 to 16 bits, 240Hz to 960Hz.
  • Pixel as the platform, providing one single chip to drive versatile pixel platforms.
  • Flexible microdisplay, including LCoS, OLEDoS, and uLEDoS enabled via unique backplane design.
4. Give a specific example (with company names) of the buying chain for your product/technology once you sell it to the next level buyer. Provide an example of the succession of companies your product goes through, ultimately to get to an end-user.
JDC supplies amplitude aligned JD4552 micro-displays and silicon backplane to HOLOEYE. The JD4552 is a Full HD (1920 x 1080), completely digital micro-display with a 0.55” image array diagonal, optimized for very high speed operation in single and multi-panel display systems. With a pixel pitch of only 6.4 µm and a small inter pixel gap of 0.2 µm the JDC LCoS SLM provides a high fill factor of 93% and thereby a high light efficiency.
5. In which vertical market(s) would you classify the end-users of this technology?
6. If other, please write in the specific market.
7. Give us your one sentence “elevator pitch” you would use to tell a non-technical person about your technology and the critical role it plays in Society.
Core Technology: “Pixel”.
JDC provides powerful pixel processing, high resolution(4k2k) and flexible platform for display and non display market. .
8. Surprise Us!  What else should we know about your product/technology?
  • JDC LCoS has micro-displays for both amplitude and phase modulation schemes, with field rates over 2 kHz.
  • JDC LCoS has the advantages of precise control of the multi-level phase modulation
  • JDC OCM design supports video Input interfaces up to 24bit RGB/YCbCr, at 170MHz, single/dual pixel per clock.
