Peter G. Eliseev received a Master’s degree from the Physics Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1959. He then received his Ph.D. from the Lebedev Physics Institute in 1965 and a DrSc from the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1974.

From 1963 until 1994, he worked with the Lebedev Physics Institute in Moscow, Russia. In 1994, he began working as Research Professor at the Center for High Technology Materials at the University of New Mexico, where he is currently Research Professor Emeritus.

His fields of scientific interests are the physics and technology of semiconductor lasers and other photonic devices. He has more than 500 publications (including three books). He was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in Sciences and Technology in 1984, and received the Nick Holonyak, Jr. Award from OSA in 2004.
