Hope Michelsen is a good friend and colleague. I am awed by her deep knowledge in fields as diverse as laser spectroscopy, synchrotron and free electron laser measurements, soot formation in flames, and the impact of soot on climate change in the arctic. Her energy is nearly infinite. Hope is incredibly inventive and at the same time observant; which helps her make major breakthroughs that others missed. Last but not least, she is a wonderful person who is always a joy to talk to.
