Thank you, Professor Donna Strickland, for your immense contributions to photonics. As a high school girl aspiring to become a female scientist in optics, I've always loved researching lasers, and now, I have found the perfect role model. Thank you, also, for giving me (and other girls, I'm sure) a concrete example that it is possible to pioneer a field previously untraversed by women. I feel very fortunate to be living in a time where women are becoming more encouraged to delve into science.
