Dr. Amalia Martínez became te first women presiding the Academia Mexicana de Óptica and has fostered the participation and recognition of women in optics and photonics. She outstandingly lead the Mexican optics and photonics community during the very special celebration of the International Year of Light and Light-Based Technologies in 2015, and has been behind the yearly organized "Participation of Women in Science" Meeting.
