Honoring Alexa Mattheyses, University of Alabama - Birmingham

Submitted by Aaron Blanchard, Emory & Georgia Tech

Though not my primary mentor, Dr. Mattheyses has massively impacted my PhD work by encouraging my ideas and maintaining a consistent presence as my mentor. She's a deep and creative thinker who, through her mere presence, teaches those around her how to more effectively wield their minds. Thanks to her combined expertise in cell adhesion biology and fluorescence microscopy, Alexa has carved out an intellectual space that may never have fully been explored without her.
