Honoring Ray T. Chen
University of Texas at Austin

Submitted by Wei Jiang Nanjing University

I’d like to pay tribute to my PhD advisor, Prof. Ray T. Chen. I came to his group with a theoretical physics background, and he introduced me to a whole new world of applying physics principles to real world problems. As I started my academic career in 2007, he led a major MURI project that included me as a co-PI. That MURI project on optical phased arrays further opened my mind to a new set of important problems that I’m still working on today. He helped me find what’s meaningful in research.
