Bill Rhodes is an true American gentleman and scholar. I was a student in his class and then his research assistant in GTech about 30 years ago. It was he who encouraged me to join OSA. Over the years we have become collaborators and friends. My own PhD students have visited and worked with him and he has visited me on several occasions. In my opinion he truly exemplifies the true spirit of a mentor. I count myself extremely lucky to have met and to continue to know him. Thanks Bill.
