Statement by OSA CEO Elizabeth Rogan on Discriminatory Acts Against Asian Pacific Islanders

The Optical Society (OSA) strongly denounces violence and discriminatory acts against Asian Pacific Islander communities. As a global society committed to inclusivity, we are deeply disturbed that Asians have been targeted during the COVID-19 pandemic and call for efforts to combat the biases that give rise to these attacks.

For Asian Pacific Islanders who are members of the OSA as well as the broader community of scientists, we recognize the effect of these hostilities on their work and well-being, while also acknowledging their contributions to science and the world. We urge all decision-makers to stand with the OSA in condemning anti-Asian rhetoric and behaviors.
