The Optical Society Welcomes Suzanne Ffolkes as New Chief Communications Officer
Public relations expert will work to evolve OSA’s branding and communications strategies
WASHINGTON--The Optical Society (OSA) today announced an expansion of its executive team with the hiring of Suzanne Ffolkes as the Society’s new Chief Communications Officer. Ffolkes will be responsible for OSA’s communications strategy, messaging and branding.
In her role, Ffolkes will work to align and elevate OSA’s organizational branding and marketing, digital platforms, and public relations and internal communications. In addition, she will serve as an ambassador for the organization, building relationships around the globe with OSA volunteers and stakeholders.
“Suzanne is a welcome addition to the OSA team,” CEO Elizabeth Rogan said. “Her depth of expertise brings new insights, knowledge and perspectives that will help to shape our messaging activities. Suzanne will leverage her strengths to raise awareness of the pivotal work our members do each day.”
Ffolkes is a distinguished journalist and public relations professional who most recently oversaw development and execution of strategic communications initiatives at Research!America where she was Vice President of Communications. She has worked in media, public relations and advocacy for the American Heart Association, the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations and the United Negro College Fund. Her work in journalism has included periods at the Associated Press, CNN and other broadcast media outlets across the country.
Ffolkes joined OSA on 29 October. She will focus on one of the science and engineering community’s greatest challenges; communicating to the general public how optics and photonics, as an enabling technology, helps solve some of the world’s greatest challenges.
