Industry Executive Sujatha Ramanujan Appointed to The Optical Society Board of Directors
Noted business leader and scientist brings experience in the global technology and healthcare industries on behalf of Society’s mission and operations
WASHINGTON -- The Optical Society (OSA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Sujatha Ramanujan, an experienced industry executive, to serve as a Director-at-Large for the term 2019-2021.

“Dr. Ramanujan brings a unique and diverse expertise to the OSA Board through her scientific achievements and business acumen, OSA President Ian Walmsley, says. “We’re pleased to add her talents to the OSA Board as it pursues its mission to support the global science and engineering community.
Currently, Dr. Ramanujan is Managing Director of Luminate NY in Rochester, N.Y., an investment fund and business accelerator designed to recruit, invest in and train optics and photonics companies. During her career, she has established and built multiple start-up businesses in technology and healthcare disciplines, opened worldwide markets in hard-to-access regions such as South Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia and the Middle East; raised millions of dollars in venture capital funding and received significant U.S. state and federal grant support for technology initiatives.
Dr. Ramanujan holds a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Professional accolades include the Boston-Haifa Recognition Award for assisting start-up biotechnology companies, Kodak Distinguished Inventor & Research Scientific Council member, Eastman Kodak, Team Achievement Eastman Kodak Gold Award and National Science Foundation and General Electric Co., Graduate Fellowships.
