Newport Introduces IR Laser Position Sensing Detector

Irvine, CA – September 8, 2016 – Newport Corporation, a global leader in high precision motion and photonics solutions, is introducing CONEX-PSD10GE, the latest addition to its series of position sensing detectors. The detector covers wavelengths from 800 – 1,700 nm using a 10 x 10 mm lateral effect sensor. All CONEX-PSD sensing detectors provide accurate XY position and relative power information of laser beams and are ideally suited for beam stabilization, laser tracking and general beam diagnostics.

Unlike quadrant detectors which require overlap in all quadrants, the tetra-lateral effect diode used in the CONEX-PSD Series is highly linear over the full sensor size and provides exact positional information as well as relative power of any spot. In contrast to many detectors that are tweaked for high bandwidth, the CONEX-PSD Series has been optimized for stability and compatibility with pulsed laser beams.

“The CONEX-PSD10GE is the first commercially available position sensing detector for the IR range,” says Beda Espinoza, Sr. Product Marketing Manager Motion at Newport. “It is a very affordable and easy to use beam diagnostic tool for widely tunable IR lasers including ultrafast lasers.”

The CONEX-PSD10GE features an analog input filter to suppress high frequency noise and undesired signal ringing when used with pulsed lasers.  An included low pass filter can be set with Newport’s easy-to-use control software to further improve signal homogeneity when measuring pulsed lasers.
