Landing and Nurturing a Career in The Next Big Thing

29 May 2020 12:00 - 13:00

Eastern Time (US & Canada) (UTC -05:00)

Five years ago, the world celebrated 2015 as the International Year of Light as declared by UNESCO in “Recognizing the importance of light and light-based technologies in the lives of the citizens of the world and for the future development of global society on many levels”[1]. Today, in 2020, more than ever that statement resonates strongly with those of us in the optics and photonics industry. Indeed significant advances have continued in our industry, with two fields in particular, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) poised to transform how we work, how we learn, and how we socialize. In this webinar, divided in three sections, we will, 1) share the vision of the products and the enabling technologies the display and optics group at Facebook is pursuing towards democratizing VR and AR, 2) the recruiting process at Facebook and how-to apply and prepare for landing a role in this space, and 3) once you have joined us, what you can do to excel and grow your career further. 1. Ali Yousaf joined Facebook in September 2017 to support recruiting for the Oculus Research (now Facebook Reality Labs) team in Redmond, WA. In this role, Ali was primarily responsible for hiring Research Scientists and Engineers who specialized in the hardware space. In his current role at Facebook, Ali manages a team of recruiters who support recruiting for the Display, Optics, Camera and Sensors teams across Facebook’s AR/VR organization. Before joining Facebook, Ali spent a little over four years at Microsoft. While there, he held roles focused on recruiting for various engineering teams and worked as a data analyst. In his personal time, Ali enjoys spending time with his wife, reading, playing basketball and putting himself through the agony of supporting all the Philadelphia sports teams!
