Ming C. Wu is Nortel Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at University of California, Berkeley. He is Co-Director of Berkeley Sensor and Actuator Center and Faculty Director of Berkeley Marvell Nanolab. He received B.S. from National Taiwan University and Ph.D. (1988) from UC Berkeley. He was Member of Technical Staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill and Professor of Electrical Engineering at UCLA before joining the faculty at UC Berkeley in 2004. He is the recipient of the 2017 C.E.K. Mees Medal and was on the winning team for the 2007 Paul F. Forman Team Engineering Excellence Award, both from OSA. He is also a Fellow of OSA.

Prof. Wu enjoys interdisciplinary research at the intersections of optoelectronics, MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical-systems) and optofluidics. He is known for his pioneering work in Optical MEMS. Prof. Wu and his students invented a new optofluidic platform called Optoelectronic Tweezers (OET) that enables massively parallel manipulation of biological cells on photoconductive surfaces using projected optical images. The OET technology has been commercialized for single cell biology applications, including antibody discovery, cell line development, and potentially cell immunotheraphy.
