The Optics and Photonics Tunisia Student Chapter is delighted to host the First North African IONS conference in Tunisia from 2-5 September 2015. This conference is part of the International OSA Network of Students (IONS) conference series which brings together optics and photonics students from around the world. The IONS conference will be held in concert with the Federation of Optics College and University Students (FOCUS) conference sponsored by SPIE. IONS Tunis 2015 is a 4-day conference targeted at PhD, MSc and engineer students working in the field of optics and photonics. During this conference students will get the opportunity to present their latest scientific results, discuss their difficulties, and share their experiences. With this conference, we will help students to become better aware of a possible career in sciences. To meet new friends and colleagues from another culture will enable the participants to share their own experience and learn from each other. In addition, this conference will develop new and innovative networking opportunities for the students. The main goals of the conference are: –Network by moving beyond our borders and engaging with international students. –Discuss scientific results. –Share experiences. Since 2015 has been declared by the UN the International Year of Light and Light-based technologies, the scope of this conference is to: –Raise awareness of the beauty and accessibility of science through the given seminars in optics and photonics. –Address the important ways light technology and its many applications will be a key drivers of innovation in the 21st century. –Address the definitive need of African countries to have better-prepared researchers in optics and photonics to pass on their skills to younger generations through experience presenting, discussing and sharing the latest scientific results.
