We’re a new chapter. What do we need to do in order to receive our start-up funds?

  • Obtain an Employer Identification Number (EIN) (U.S.-based chapters only)—U.S. chapters must have an EIN. Click here for details on obtaining an EIN.
  • Open a bank account or make a funding arrangement with your university. Your chapter will need a bank account in order to receive funds from OSA and other sources. In some cases, your university may be willing to administer your funds. Please check with the appropriate university administrators with regard to group and society funds and account management.

What is an Employer Identification Number (EIN)?

An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a nine-digit number that the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) assigns in the following format: XX-XXXXXXX. It is used to identify the tax accounts of employers and/or other groups or businesses that have no employees. Click here for a detailed explanation of an EIN. The information provided includes examples on how to fill out necessary forms to obtain an EIN.

We’ve submitted the paperwork. How long will it take for us to receive our start-up funds?

Once OSA receives your chapter’s fully completed forms, it takes up to three weeks for check requests and/or wire transfers to be processed. Feel free to contact the OSA staff by submitting a Help Ticket for an update on your funding request.
