The Optical Society Foundation Donates 550 Explore Optics Kits for World Science Day

Kits Offer Hands-on Experiments with Lasers, Lenses and Other Optics Activities

WASHINGTON – In recognition of World Science Day, The Optical Society Foundation (OSAF) has donated 550 “Explore Optics” kits to OSA members engaged in community outreach. This significant donation comes with support from OSA industry member, Go!Foton. World Science Day for Peace and Development highlights the important role that science has in society and is celebrated annually on 10 November. World Science Day was proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2001 and celebrated for the first time in 2002.

“The Explore Optics Kit is an innovative, interactive package designed to introduce young students to the dynamic and exciting properties of light and we are excited to celebrate of World Science Day with OSA members,” said Chad Stark, executive director, The Optical Society Foundation. “These particular kits have been upgraded to include three Light Blox which are sturdy light sources designed just for the classroom. These LED's are perfect for mixing up the secondary colors of light as well as for mixing a pure white light.”

By linking science more closely with society, World Science Day aims to ensure that citizens are informed of developments in science. It also underscores the role scientists play in broadening our understanding of the planet we call home and in making our societies more sustainable.

OSA member Dr. Simin Cai, Founder and CEO of Go!Foton, added “Our mission at Go!Foton is to deliver light to shine on our customers, shareholders, employees – and our world. We are proud to support The OSA Foundation (OSAF) in providing training and outreach tools to the optics and photonics community.  Partnering with the OSAF allows Go!Foton to achieve our philanthropic goals by leveraging a global network of optics and photonics professionals to educate and inspire the next generation with the wonders of light.”
