The Optical Society Announces 2018 Technical Group Chairs
OSA Technical groups unite members with colleagues and leaders across the broad research areas
of optics and photonics
WASHINGTON — The Optical Society (OSA) is pleased to announce the newly elected chairs for twelve OSA Technical Groups. OSA Technical Groups are vibrant and active communities that connect OSA members with colleagues and leaders within specialized topic areas from around the world. Each group organizes special events featuring tailored programming for members at OSA meetings, facilitates online forums to engage in discussions, and delivers focused information on the latest developments in the field as well opportunities to explore emerging topics.
Elected by their fellow members, these individuals serve a three-year term beginning in January 2018. Each chair is responsible for creating an engagement plan for the group, providing an annual report on group activities to the OSA Board of Meetings and designating an executive committee of their fellow OSA members to assist them in their efforts. The chair and executive committee work together to organize events, webinars, workshops and other technical sessions online or at OSA meetings throughout the year.
“The new technical group chairs will gain valuable experience in planning and organizing events as well as other professional skills that scientists do not typically obtain in their day to day job,” said Volker Sorger, OSA Technical Group Development Co-Chair on the Board of Meetings. “Congratulations to the new technical group chairs and I’m looking forward to working with them in the coming year.”
Currently, OSA has 44 technical groups that fall under one of six technical divisions. These include Bio-Medical Optics; Fabrication, Design and Instrumentation; Information Acquisition, Processing and Display; Optical Interaction Science; Photonics and Opto-Electronics; and Vision and Color.
