Anthony J. Keane, Certified Association Executive, Joins OSA as Chief Operating Officer

December 15, 2003 (Washington, D.C.) – The Optical Society of America today announced that Anthony J. Keane, certified association executive (CAE), has joined its staff to serve as the chief operating officer (COO). In this role, Keane will oversee financial and operational programs for the Society. This position reports directly to the Society's executive director.

Keane, formerly of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), has had significant non-profit association experience. Having served at CSI as the director of resource management, interim executive director, and the deputy executive director, Keane brings years of core management expertise to the table. Additionally, as CSI, like OSA, is a member-based organization with trade shows, conferences, seminars and publications, Keane is familiar with the workings of member-driven societies and has a well-established history of helping organizations to fulfill their missions, objectives and strategies.

“OSA looked for a COO who would bring a great deal of experience and energy to our organization,” says Elizabeth Rogan, executive director. “Tony's combination of association knowledge, relevant past experiences, professionalism and dedication made him the perfect candidate for the opening. We're pleased to have him on board and look forward to introducing him to our membership.”

Past positions for Keane have provided a broad range of experience, from accounting to business management. In addition to CSI, Keane has held positions at the Institute of Industrial Engineers, The Software Factory, Inc., Trade Management, Inc., Keane Financial Services, Inc., NCR Corporation and Arthur Anderson & Co. Keane holds a BBA in Accounting and Management from the University of Cincinnati, and has attended numerous MBA finance courses at both Georgia State University and the University of Dayton. He also is certified as a public accountant (CPA) in the state of Ohio.

Keane is active in the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and the Council of Engineering and Scientific Society Executives (CESSE), having served on finance committees for both organizations. Additionally, he has conducted numerous seminars and conferences for those organizations, including presentations at the ASAE Financial Management Symposium, the CESSE annual meetings and finance and administration section meetings.
