IEEE and OSA Launch Journal of Display Technology

Shin-Tson Wu, University of Central Florida, USA, Editor-in-Chief

Washington , DC – OSA and IEEE have announced plans to launch the Journal of Display Technology , sponsored jointly by seven IEEE Societies and OSA. This is a new archival journal devoted to the timely dissemination of new results and discussions on all aspects of display technologies, spanning many disciplines. The Journal of Display Technology (JDT) will, for the first time, bridge themes of multi-disciplinary interest in the field. The inaugural issue is scheduled for September 2005, and Shin-Tson Wu, a professor at the University of Central Florida 's College of Optics , will take the helm as editor-in-chief.

OSA expects JDT to become a subscription offering in 2006, available both as a single subscription to JDT or as part of InfoBase. Pricing and availability will be announced in summer 2005. The Journal will be available in paper and electronic format, and will be subject to the standards of IEEE and OSA with a thorough independent review process.

A call for papers for the first issue has already been initiated. Papers are solicited in all areas of display technology including:

  • Flat panel displays (LCDs, PDPs, OLEDs, FEDs, etc.)
  • Active matrix display
  • CRTs, VFDs, 3D displays, electronic paper
  • Microdisplays and projection displays
  • Materials and components
  • Optical design
  • Display packaging
  • Lighting technologies
  • Display drivers and interfaces
  • Modeling
  • Display systems and engineering
  • Manufacturing technology
  • Reliability and testing
  • Applications
  • Human factors

Manuscripts should conform to requirements for regular papers or briefs and can be submitted electronically through IEEE's Manuscript Central.  Authors can create a user account at http://leos-ieee.manuscriptcentral.com/ and upload the entire paper (text, abstract, keywords, references, figures, and author biographies) in a single Word or .pdf file, along with a cover letter containing author contact information. Inquiries should be directed to Linda Matarazzo, Publications Manager, IEEE LEOS Editorial Office, l.matarazzo@ieee.org (phone +1 732 562 3910; fax +1 732 981 1138).

The September inaugural issue will consist of contributed and invited papers covering a wide range of display technologies. The editorial board consists of internationally recognized experts. Widest circulation is assured because 900 libraries, worldwide, subscribe to IEEE periodicals packages that will contain the IEEE/OSA Journal of Display Technology. Additionally, OSA will include JDT as an offering in its top-ranked Optics InfoBase.

About OSA

Representing more than 15,000 members from approximately 100 different countries, OSA promotes the worldwide generation, application and dissemination of optics and photonics knowledge through its meetings, events and journals. Since its founding in 1916, OSA member benefits, programming, publications, products and services have set the industry's standard of excellence. Additional information on OSA is available on the Society's Web site at www.osa.org.

About IEEE

The IEEE and its predecessors, the AIEE (American Institute of Electrical Engineers) and the IRE (Institute of Radio Engineers), date to 1884. From its earliest origins, the IEEE has advanced the theory and application of electrotechnology and allied sciences, served as a catalyst for technological innovation and supported the needs of its members through a wide variety of programs and services.
