Frequently Asked Funding Questions
Q: We’re a new chapter. What do we need to do in order to receive our start-up funds?
A:
- Obtain an Employer Identification Number (U.S.-based chapters only) – U.S.-based chapters must have an “Employer Identification Number” (EIN). Click here for details on obtaining an EIN.
- Open a Bank Account or Make a Funding Arrangement with Your University – Your chapter will need a bank account in order to receive funds from OSA and other sources. In some cases, your university may be willing to administer your funds. Please check with the appropriate university administrators with regard to group and society funds and account management.
- Submit Funding Request – Click here for details and forms relating to requesting funds for your chapter. You may also contact the Chapter and Student Services Manager at chaptersandsections@osa.org.
Q: What is an EIN?
A: An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a nine-digit number that the IRS assigns in the following format: XX-XXXXXXX. Q: What forms must the chapter complete in order to get an EIN?
A: U.S.-based chapters must complete and submit IRS Form SS-4 directly to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Click here for more details and guidelines on completing this form. Q: We’ve submitted the paperwork. How long will it take for us to receive our start up funds?
A: Once OSA receives your chapter’s fully completed forms, it will generally take 1-3 weeks for check requests and/or wire transfers. You may follow up with the Chapter and Student Services Manager at chaptersandsections@osa.org to determine the status of your funding request.
Q: I received notification that our chapter received a grant. What do I need to do now?
A: Please read the notification letter closely. In some cases, there are special instructions, a request for information, or forms that your chapter will need to complete.
