Looking Back and Forward at the Laser Market

In a Market Report in the April issue of Optica’s Optics & Photonics News (OPN), Optica’s senior industry advisor Tom Hausken reviewed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and related worker shortages on the optics and photonics industry. Now as we head into the final quarter of 2022, the effects of the pandemic, energy constraints and geopolitical conflict are still being very much felt in the world economy—and the laser market is no exception.

A new Market Report in the October issue of OPN examines the state of laser and optics companies over the past several years and looks ahead to consider what might be to come. In the story, Hausken provides an update on the revenues and net incomes of the companies he reported on in the April issue, and he tracks stock prices of laser and optics companies, which are expected to reflect investors’ expected future return on investments.

Ultimately, although the laser industry is vulnerable to a recession, it’s also highly diversified and resilient.
