Airports

Nara does not have its own airport.  Most visitors arrive via Narita International Airport (NRT) or Kansai International Airport (KIX).

Narita International Airport is located in the city of Narita, about 60 km outside of Tokyo.

Kansai International Airport is located on a man-made island about 50 km south of Osaka.

From Narita International Airport (NRT)

Via Osaka International Airport (Itami):

1. Take a domestic flight to Osaka International Airport (Itami) from Narita International Airport. 

2. Upon arrival at Osaka International Airport, take an airport limousine bus to JR Nara Station. 
   (Travel time by train is approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes).

3. Arrive in Nara, Japan.  Use the west exit.  It is a short walk (1 minute) to the Hotel Nikko Nara.

Via JR Tokyo Station:

1. Take the JR Narita Express Train to JR Tokyo Station. 
   (Travel time is approximately 53 minutes).         

2. Take the JR Shinkansen to JR Kyoto Station.
   (Travel time is approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes).

3. From Kyoto Station, take the Kintetsu Kyoto Line or JR Nara Line.
   (Travel time is approximately 45 minutes).

4. Arrive in Nara, Japan.  Use the west exit.  It is a short walk (1 minute) to the Hotel Nikko Nara.

From Kansai International Airport (KIX)

Via JR Airport Limited Express Train:

1. Take the JR Airport Limited Express Train (Haruka) to Tennoji Station.
   (Travel time is approximately 30 minutes).

2. From Tennoji Station, transfer to the JR Yamatoji Line going to JR Nara Station.
   (Travel time is approximately 30 minutes).

3. Arrive in Nara, Japan.  Use the west exit.  It is a short walk (1 minute) to the Hotel Nikko Nara.

Via Kansai Airport Rapid Service:

1. Take the Kansai Airport Rapid Service to JR Tennoji Station.
    (Travel time is approximately 45 minutes).

2. From Tennoji Station, transfer to the JR Yamatoji Line going to JR Nara Station.
    (Travel time is approximately 30 minutes).

3. Arrive in Nara, Japan.  Use the west exit.  It is a short walk (1 minute) to the Hotel Nikko Nara.

Bus Service

For those attending The 6th Asia Pacific Laser Symposium Meeting, or in need of local transport, a special ticketed direct bus has been arranged for ASSP/EQD attendees.  The bus will leave at 7:15 pm on Wednesday, Jan 30th from the Nara Ken Shinkokaido to the Nagoya station The fare will be shared by the passengers and is considerably less expensive, and more convenient, than the fare between Nara to Nagoya by a local train and an express train (approx US$60).  If you are interested in this option, please send an email to Liaison Japan liaison@gol.com with the subject line “Nagoya Bus”, and provide your name.  Your reservation will be accepted and confirmed via email, and the final fare will be advised.  Payment (cash only) will be accepted on site at the ASSP registration desk. 

Information on bus service to Nara

Via Airport Limousine Bus:

1. Take the Airport Limousine Bus to JR Nara Station.  Board the bus at Terminal #9.  Tickets can be purchased on the ground floor outside the terminal building.
   (Travel time is approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes).

2. (2)  Arrive in Nara, Japan.  Use the west exit.  It is a short walk (1 minute) to the Hotel Nikko Nara.

Hotel

Use the west exit to leave the JR Nara Station.  Hotel Nikko Nara is a 1 minute walk from JR Nara Station.
