Workshop on Optical Plasmonic Materials

The communities developing optical components and devices based on plasmonics and metamaterial designs are still somewhat limited by the materials that are available from which to fabricate them.  Noble metals are lossy and new materials need to be identified and developed.  Recently there have been advances in doped transparent oxides and transition metal nitrides which can be tuned, e.g. through doping, to provide low loss materials whose plasma frequency is in the near or mid-infrared.

This one-day workshop will focus on materials such as aluminium doped zinc oxide, tunable/phase change materials like vanadium dioxide and novel materials that can be used for active plasmonics and optical metamaterials having new properties. The workshop will be relevant to those who are interested in some of the fundamental aspects of modifying these materials for the design of improved tunable plasmonic materials and metamaterials.  Participation by material scientists and chemists who work with optical materials would be most welcome.

Postdeadline Papers

The QIM and HILAS committees will accept a limited number of postdeadline papers for oral presentation.  Before the sessions begin light refreshments will be served.
