The Optical Society and the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) Give the Gift of Light

Over the span of five days, The OSA Foundation and the AAPT will provide more than $8,500 worth of educational
material in celebration of the International Year of Light 2015

WASHINGTON – The OSA Foundation partnered with the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) to distribute 500 Light BLOX kits to students and educators through 2015. These kits have been distributed at various AAPT meetings and available at this week’s AAPT Summer Meeting.

WHAT: The American Association of Physics Teachers Summer Meeting

WHEN: 25-29 July 2015

WHERE: University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland

DETAILS: The 2015 AAPT Summer Meeting will offer five days of quality, forward-thinking presentations led by physics leaders from around the globe.  In addition to paper and poster sessions, as well as workshops, there are a variety of special events and activities that will enable networking and collaboration with attendees on all levels. The AAPT Exhibit Hall typical hosts more than 30 companies and industry leaders.

Nearly 250 students, teachers and parents will receive a Light BLOX kit during the AAPT Summer Meeting. The OSA Foundation launched the Light BLOX Education Kit as a special campaign in support of The International Year of Light, a global initiative highlighting the importance of light and optical technologies in everyday life. Light Blox provides students with hands on activities that introduce them to the science of light. Each kit comes equipped with a guidebook including lesson plans and activities. The kit demonstrates how to bend, bounce and blend light with three high tech light sources, lenses, mirrors and an activity guide full of fun and learning.

Since the start of the campaign in October of 2014, over 2,000 kits have been distributed worldwide.
