    The OSA Foundation is pleased to announce the first award winners of the Emil Wolf Outstanding Student Paper Competition. Debuting at the Optical Society’s (OSA) Annual Meeting, Frontiers in Optics (FiO), one recipient was chosen from each of the seven FiO subcommittees.

    The OSA Foundation, HRL Laboratories LLC, the IEEE Photonics Society and the APS Division of Laser Science are pleased to announce Georg Anetsberger of the Max-Planck-Institute of Quantum Optics in Germany as the winner of the first annual Theodore Maiman Student Paper Competition.

    The OSA Foundation and Infinera are pleased to announce that Ming-Chun Tien from the University of California, Berkeley has been given the first Infinera Outstanding Student Recognition Prize for his paper titled “Optofluidic Assembly of InGaAsP Microdisk Lasers on Si Photonic Circuits with Submicron Alignment Accuracy.”

    The OSA Foundation and Corning Incorporated are pleased to announce Jeffrey Lee of the University of Technology Eindhoven in The Netherlands as the winner of this year’s Corning Outstanding Student Paper Competition. Jeffrey Lee was awarded top honors for his paper “Discrete Multitone Modulation for High-Speed Data Transmission over Multimode Fibers Using 850-nm VCSEL.”

    The OSA Foundation today announced the establishment of the Emil Wolf Outstanding Student Paper Competition. The new competition honors University of Rochester Professor Emil Wolf’s many contributions to science and the Optical Society (OSA). Awards will be given annually in recognition of innovation and research excellence to students presenting their work during OSA’s Annual Meeting, Frontiers in Optics (FiO).

    The OSA Foundation (OSAF) is pleased to announce Katie Hasman as the winner of the first annual Harvey M. Pollicove Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship, which honors optics manufacturing pioneer Harvey Pollicove, is given to an outstanding student pursuing a degree in the field of precision optics manufacturing.
