Students Showcase Education Outreach Efforts in Creative New Contest

The creativity and artistic expression of young scientists were challenged recently in a contest held by the OSA Foundation (OSAF). The Photo and Video Contest selected the best photos and videos relating to educational outreach programs conducted by OSA Student Chapters, with funding or materials provided by the OSAF in 2010.
The OSA Foundation and Coherent Inc. Partner to Support OSA Student Chapters

The OSA Foundation and Coherent Inc. are pleased to announce the participating student chapters in the OSA Foundation's new Adopt a Student Chapter Program. The program will provide financial sponsorship on behalf of Coherent Inc. to six OSA Student Chapters located in Brazil, China, and India to assist them in holding a range of academic and professional networking activities.
New Scholarship Planned in Honor of Boris Stoicheff

One of the pioneering figures in the history of spectroscopy and non-linear optics, Boris Stoicheff, passed away last year. To honor his memory, the OSA Foundation (OSAF) and the Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) have launched a fundraising campaign to establish a graduate student scholarship in his name.

The OSA Foundation (OSAF) and Optical Research Associates (ORA®) are pleased to announce the establishment of the Robert S. Hilbert Memorial Travel Grant. Funded by ORA as a memorial to their former President and Chief Executive Officer Robert S. Hilbert, this program recognizes the research excellence of students in the areas of optical engineering, lens design, and/or illumination design.

OSA Foundation Awards Harvey M. Pollicove Memorial Scholarship to University of Arizona Graduate Student Katie Schwertz

The scholarship, which honors optics manufacturing pioneer Harvey Pollicove, is given to an outstanding student pursuing a degree in the field of precision optics manufacturing. Schwertz is currently working toward a master’s degree in optical sciences at the University of Arizona’s College of Optical Sciences.
Emil Wolf Outstanding Student Paper Competition Awardees Announced

The OSA Foundation is pleased to announce the first award winners of the Emil Wolf Outstanding Student Paper Competition. Debuting at the Optical Society’s (OSA) Annual Meeting, Frontiers in Optics (FiO), one recipient was chosen from each of the seven FiO subcommittees.
