Foundations of Nonlinear Optics 2016 ago. 09 - 11 2016 Description:
This meeting is a follow up to symposia on Applications of Sum Rules and Scaling in Nonlinear Optics in August 2014 at Washington State University, Pullman, WA and the Foundations of Nonlinear Optics in August 2015 at LeHigh University, Bethlehem, PA. The meeting will focus on fundamental issues of light-matter interactions from the quantum point of view, the transition between quantum and classical perspectives, and the applications of the insights gained in such a way to the design of molecules and other artificial structures. The program is designed to maximize the breadth of topics, yet maintain a common focus that fosters stimulating interactions that generate new ideas. Unlike large international meetings with many disjoint parallel sessions of low attendance, our aim is to provide a stimulating program that encourages all attendees to spend time together. A top priority of the meeting is to promote interactions and to allow discussions to flow freely. The meeting will be informal, with no tight schedule. Speakers will present talks in the form of a classroom lecture, and aimed at the level of a graduate student with only a basic knowledge of nonlinear optics. Interruptions for questions and discussions are encouraged. Each speaker will provide documents in advance that can be studied or used as a reference by the attendees.

IONS KOALA 2016 nov. 27 - 02 2016 Description:
IONS KOALA 2016 is the 9th Conference on Optics, Atoms and Laser Applications (KOALA) held annually in Australia and New Zealand as well as an International OSA Network of Students (IONS) conference sponsored by The Optical Society (OSA). IONS KOALA 2016 is being co-hosted by the Monash University OSA Student Chapter and the Swinburne University of Technology joint OSA/SPIE Student Chapter, and with the support of many fantastic organisations, our goal is to bring together a large groups of Honours, Masters and PhD students currently conducting research in any field of optics, atoms and laser applications in Australia, New Zealand and the world KOALA encompasses a broad variety of topics within the field of optics and photonics. These include but are not limited to atomic, molecular and optical physics, quantum optics, spectroscopy, micro and nanofabrication, biomedical imaging, metrology, nonlinear optics and laser physics research. Most attendees are at the very beginning of their careers, so this is a great way to discover a wide range of possible directions within the world of optics and photonics! KOALA is designed to allow students to discuss their research whilst providing them with a chance to network with their peers who are working in various universities across a variety of fields. Our aim is that students gain a fresh perspective as well as the opportunity to learn about exciting research being conducted. Students will also get the chance to develop valuable communication skills through presenting their research to their peers working in a variety of fields. Registration fees are kept as low as possible in keeping with KOALA’s aim of providing an open and positive environment for students at all levels to present and discuss their research.
