  • This year’s Imaging and Applied Optics Conference (AIO) brings together optics researchers from public and private entities with experience in overcoming the challenges of deploying and commercializing new technologies.


  • The Optical Society (OSA), SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, and the Materials Research Society (MRS) are pleased to announce the 2015-2016 Congressional Science and Engineering Fellows. Jennifer Brookes, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Washington, will serve as the 2015-2016 Arthur H. Guenther Congressional Fellow, which is co-sponsored by OSA and SPIE; and Peter W. Winter, Ph. D., a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health, will serve as the OSA/MRS Congressional Fellow. Each will serve a one-year term working as special legislative assistants on the staffs of U.S. congressional offices or committees in Washington.


  • The 2015 CLEO Conference and Exposition concluded today with 4,400 attendees, 226 exhibitors and 1380 presentations from around the world. Conference and exhibition programming provided attendees with valuable insights into a broad range of topics such as optical microscopy for brain imaging, three dimensional printing and single-photon nonlinear optics. CLEO 2015 took place 10-15 May at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California, USA.


  • The Siegman International School on Lasers is a week-long program that exposes students to in-depth learning of lasers and their applications from internationally recognized academic and industry leaders in the field. The scope includes all aspects of lasers and photonics.


  • The OSA Foundation has announced the recipients of its student awards and travel grants. The awards will be presented during CLEO 2015, taking place this week at the San Jose Convention Center, San Jose, California, USA.
