The Optics Driving Today’s Auto Industry
Panelists to Discuss How Today’s Optical Technologies Will Impact Tomorrow’s Drivers
WASHINGTON – In the next ten years, the auto industry will undergo a profound transformation: the cars it builds, the power moving them forward and the consumers who buy them will look significantly different. Optical technologies, in many ways, will enable these changes. Featuring experts from all aspects of the automotive industry, this panel discussion will highlight advances the technology behind (and above) the dashboard and how it will impact how we drive in the future.
When you think of cars of the future, what features do they have? Autonomous is one technology used, alternate fuels is another, and even then, will it have a 5G connection to live-stream your favorite sporting event? It is safe to assume that future cars will still have four seats, rubber tires, powered by gasoline and still resemble a metal box. But that’s where the similarities end. Enabling and empowering the next-generation of transportation is optics and photonics.
This discussion is coordinated by The American Physical Society (APS) and The Optical Society (OSA), and sponsored by The American Institute of Physics (AIP). Local Washington DC media are welcome to attend. Attendees will be provided the opportunity to interview panelists following the program.
