Recognize Experience, Professional Accomplishments and Service with OSA Senior Member Status
OSA Senior Member Designation Requests due by 28 February 2018
WASHINGTON —The Optical Society (OSA), the leading global professional association in optics and photonics, encourages well-established OSA Members to submit a request for the OSA Senior Member Designation. This special designation recognizes the experience and professional accomplishments of individuals in the science of light.
“The Senior Member designation has meant a great deal to my career, including career advancement due to the recognition of my technical expertise,” said Dr. Arti Agrawal, Associate Professor at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia, as well as an OSA Senior Member and the incoming chair of the OSA Membership Engagement and Development Committee. “I highly encourage OSA Members, especially women and ethnic minorities, to apply for the designation because it demonstrates how your accomplishments are valued by your peers and the OSA community.”
Applicants for OSA Senior Member status must possess at least ten years of cumulative professional experience in an optics or photonics related field since attaining their first degree and be an active member in OSA. Additional criteria and requirements can be found here.
“A new feature for 2018 is that we expanded the online system to allow OSA Members to nominate a peer or colleague for OSA Senior Member consideration,” said Genaro Montanez, Chief of Employee and Membership Engagement Officer at The Optical Society. “This will help open the nomination process to an expanded audience and increase the diversity in applicants.”
In addition to the benefits of OSA Membership, Senior Members receive:
- Special Recognitions in the OSA Member/Individual Directory, the OSA website, the Careers section of Optics & Photonics News (OPN) and at OSA hosted events.
- Announcement of Senior Members status in OPN, the OSA Member newsletter and a news release.
- Senior Member Certificate and Lapel Pin.
- Letter of Recognition that can be sent to one’s employer.
- Access to the Senior Member Logo, which can be used on one’s personal website, business cards and other professional correspondence.
