OSA’s Advances in Optics and Photonics Journal to be Indexed in Top Citation Database

Cover of Advances in Optics and Photonics JournalWASHINGTON, Dec. 12, 2013—The Optical Society (OSA) today announced its journal, Advances in Optics and Photonics, has been approved for indexing in Thomson Reuters’® Web of Science™, the Scientific, Technical and Medical publishing industry’s leading citation database. Advances in Optics and Photonics articles are scheduled to start appearing in Web of Science beginning early next year, with its first Impact Factor expected in June 2014, when Thomson Reuters announces its Journal Citation Reports® (JCR) rankings for all journals. The Impact Factor is a metric meant to indicate the average number of times recent articles in a journal are cited during the previous year and is used by many scientists to determine where they should publish their work.

Advances in Optics and Photonics launched in 2009 and publishes peer-reviewed long review articles and multimedia tutorials from prominent authors in optics and photonics. The journal will join 14 other OSA journals already indexed in Web of Science. Collectively OSA’s journals receive the highest number of citations of any publisher in the JCR Optics category.

“Being indexed in Web of Science is an important step for Advances in Optics and Photonics,” said Elizabeth Nolan, OSA deputy executive director and chief publishing officer. “Since the journal launched in 2009, it has distinguished itself as a leading journal for well-respected optics and photonics researchers to publish their reviews and tutorials. Indexing in Web of Science will boost the reputation and visibility of the journal even further.”

Content in Web of Science covers more than 12,000 of the highest-impact journals worldwide, including both subscription and open access journals as well as more than 150,000 conference proceedings. Articles cover topics in the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities and date back to 1900.
