OSA Student Members Gather for IONS-Armenia Conference on Optics
WASHINGTON, Sept. 10, 2013–The International OSA Network of Students (IONS™) will host the IONS-Armenia/Yerevan Conference at Yerevan State University (YSU) Sept. 11-14. The conference, organized by the Yerevan State University OSA Student Chapter, will feature technical sessions and programming for graduate students in the field of optics and photonics. The Optical Society (OSA) sponsors the event.The IONS-Armenia/Yerevan program includes invited speaker presentations from:
- Philippe Lalanne, Institut d'Optique, Campus Polytechnique, France
- Karen Hatsagortsyan, Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik, German
- Kristiaan Neyts, Ghent University, Belgium
- Levon Mouradian, Yerevan State University, Yerevan
- Aram Papoyan, Institute for Physical Research, Ashtarak
- Hayk Sarkisyan, Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University, Yerevan
- Gagik Buniatyan, LT-PYRKAL, Yerevan
IONS Conferences allow students from across all disciplines of optics to present their research to fellow young scientists via student-driven discussion in a learning format. Technical talks and poster sessions at IONS-Armenia/Yerevan will cover topics including quantum optics, laser spectroscopy, semiconductor lasers, biomedical optics, and more.
Since its inception in 2006 at OSA’s Annual Meeting, Frontiers in Optics (FiO), 33 IONS Conferences have been held all over the world, including Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America. The meetings are independently managed by OSA Student Chapters and are designed to give young scientists a way to connect and collaborate with the global optics and photonics community.
