- The Internet continues to evolve with innovative applications, increasing bandwidth requirements, and changing traffic and usage patterns. This evolution is clearly intertwined with the performance and economics of the underlying optical networks.
- Since the early 1980s, telecom networks have increasingly depended on a solid foundation of optical technology to provide the cost, reliability, and capacity needed to support new services. The telecom bubble appreciably decreased spending on new optical technology, and hence innovation, imperiling the next cycle of technology and product advancements. Despite the current economy, R&D spending has bounced back, bringing with it renewed emphasis on technical innovation.
- Technology experts from around the world will converge at OFC/NFOEC to report and discuss how optics will support the next round of network evolution.
- As the largest and most comprehensive international event for optical communications, this year’s OFC/NFOEC will host the entire scope of optical communications, providing exhibits, live demonstrations and educational activities for all audiences.
