OSA’s Membership and activities include a global community of scientists, educators, engineers, technicians, students and business leaders with an interest in optics and photonics. OSA has more than 20,000 members from 100 countries and over 350 student chapters in more than 61countries. Fifty-six percent of OSA Members reside outside of the United States

OSA has agreements with several peer societies, which provide dues and meeting/conference registration discounts.
OSA co-sponsors or manages multiple conferences and congresses on 6 continents, including CLEO/Europe and CLEO/Pacific Rim, Asian Conference on Photonics and Communications (ACP), the Latin America Optics and Photonics Conference (LAOP) and European Conferences on Biomedical Optics (ECBO).
Approximately 70% of OSA journal authors reside outside of the U.S.
The Society is actively working to encourage involvement of international scientists in OSA leadership committees and councils.
