2014 Student Chapter Recruitment Contest

This year, twenty OSA Student Chapters participated.

In addition to lectures and meetings, the Central Carolina CC OSA Student Chapter will host Friday raffles to engage members and keep up excitement in the chapter.

A recruitment contest winner, the Griffith University OSA Student Chapter has demonstrated excellence in membership.
 

The Grupo de Óptica de los Andes (Universidad de los Andes) doubled its membership and holds each member responsible for planning at least one meeting so that all members can gain that experience.

The Indian School of Mines OSA Student Chapter which was recently chartered in 2013 receives an honorable mention in this contest for their excellence in recruitment. The officers have a full schedule planned for this year with a poster competition, lecture, and youth education outreach event.
 

The Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences OSA Student Chapter has an event planned each month this year including four education outreach events. Check out their video where a chapter member shares an education outreach demonstration.
 

The KAUST OSA Student Chapter hosted a software workshop series this March to help chapter members with professional development.
 

The Monash University OSA Student Chapter has an upcoming Introduction to Latex activity, undergraduate networking event and a Laser tag social event coming up. OSA Student Memberships were prizes at their April Welcome Event.
 

The Naples (Università degli Studi di Napoli) OSA Student Chapter knows how to make optics fun. I’d recommend visiting them with a joint-activity grant.


The Naples chapter teaches us the basics of optics without using words.
 

One of the winning chapters, the Nanjing University OSA Student Chapter demonstrated excellence in recruiting as well as chapter programming.

The Research Center in Optics (CIO) OSA/SPIE Student Chapter has recruited many new members who will be taking part in a full schedule of professional development, youth education outreach and social activities.


Chapter officers give an overview of chapter activities and share their excitement for the activities they are involved in.
 

After holding the 1st International School and Conference “Saint-Petersburg OPEN 2014, the Saint-Petersburg Academic University of Russian Academy of Sciences OSA Student Chapter is not taking a break- they have several lectures and events right around the corner and a full schedule for the fall.

As always, the Stanford Optical Society (Stanford University OSA Student Chapter) demonstrates excellence in recruiting and programming with several lectures each month along with professional development and social activities.

 

The Stanford University OSA Student Chapter takes their members to ‘funkytown’ while they enjoy the benefits of their chapter.

 

A winning chapter, the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv OSA Student Chapter has doubled its membership and planned many activities for the upcoming year including a laser chess championship.

The newly revived Universidad Central de Venezuela OSA Student Chapter has kicked off 2014 with professional development and lab tours, but we are most excited to get pictures of their upcoming “Laser Battle” where they will compete with a game built in their own lab.
