Resources: Young Professionals
OSA Young Professionals are a dynamic group of post-graduate volunteers who want to be more involved in OSA’s governance and programs. If you’re an active OSA member under 40 who has completed your final degree, we welcome you to join!
OSA always seeks top-notch YP volunteers to contribute to our exceptional technical meeting events. There are several ways to get involved:
Serve as a program committee member: YPs take on all the duties expected of a program committee member, such as suggesting candidates for invited papers and reviewing and encouraging contributed paper submissions. Program committees are filled one year in advance. They are high profile and very competitive.
Serve as a session presider. YPs with accepted papers may volunteer to preside over sessions. In this role, YPs are responsible for making sure the session runs smoothly and on time, and that the audience is engaged. Presiding is an excellent chance to network with others working in your field(s) of interest.
Serve as a blogger/Tweeter: If you’re passionate about optics innovation and have a knack for writing engaging technical content, serve as a blogger. Your posts will be seen by community members prior to and during the conference, and you will receive special recognition. Past bloggers have made valuable connections as a result of their efforts. In some cases, OSA will provide a complimentary meeting registration for your efforts.
Suggest your own volunteer activity: we are always looking for new ideas!
To get involved, email the YP program manager. Please specify the meeting of most interest to you.
