Introduction to Mid-Spatial Frequency (MSF) Errors for Optical Surfaces

14 April 2021

Eastern Time (US & Canada) (UTC -05:00)

Mid-spatial frequency (MSF) errors can be a source of small angle scatter or blur in an optical system. This webinar will provide an introduction to MSF errors. It will cover many questions optical designers often ask of optical fabricators, for example: What causes MSF errors on the surface of optics? How can I specify MSF errors so that my surfaces are smooth? How are you going to measure MSF errors?

About Our Speaker: Jessica DeGroote Nelson, Optimax

Jessica DeGroote Nelson, headshotJessica DeGroote Nelson is an alumni of the University of Rochester with B.S., M.S. and Ph.D degrees in Optics as well as her MBA from the Simon School of Business. Jessica has been at Optimax since 2007 where she has helped build their research and development department fueled by several SBIRs focused on conformal and freeform optics. She is currently the Director of Technology and Strategy at Optimax working with a large team to build their future product and technology roadmaps through a continuous strategic planning process. Jessica is also an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Rochester’s Institute of Optics teaching both graduate and undergraduate classes on Optical Materials, Fabrication and Testing. She is active in several local and national optics societies. Jessica is the educational outreach chair for the OSA-Rochester Section, she sits on SPIE’s Optical Engineering editorial board as an associate editor, she recently took on the position as book editor of SPIE’s Tutorial Text series and she sits on several planning committees for SPIE, OSA and the University of Rochester.
