The European Commission’s LIFE programme is an EU financial instrument which supports “environmental, nature conservation and climate action projects”. Its overall aim is to contribute to the implementation and development of EU environmental and climate policy by co-financing projects delivering on such goals. Since its creation in 1992, over 4000 projects have been co-financed by LIFE, and for the 2014-2020 funding period alone, over €1.1 billion are dedicated to such projects.
Managed by the European Commission, its implementation is mainly covered by the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (EASME). To apply for these grants, proposals from public bodies, private commercial organisations or NGOs as well as legal persons registered in the EU are welcome.
In April 2017, the LIFE programme launched
its 2017 call for proposals with a budget of over €373 million, most of it dedicated to the sub-programme for Environment, and the rest for the programme on Climate Action. For further information on the LIFE programme, the European Commission will hold an information day
on the 31st of May, during the Green Week, in Brussels.
In addition, the European Commission is organizing workshops and information days in some of the EU's Member States. For more information, please click here
