Jasbinder S Sanghera received the Ph.D. in materials science from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, London, U.K. He was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles. Today he is head of the Optical Materials and Devices Branch at the Naval Research Laboratory in the United States.

He is the author or co-author of more than 150 papers, has co-edited a book on infrared fiber optics, presented over 120 talks, and has been awarded over 30 patents. He has been widely recognized for his work, and in 2011 received OSA’s David Richardson Medal. He is a Fellow of OSA.
