OSA Technical Group Events at FiO
This year's Frontiers in Optics conference, held in San Jose, California, featured several exciting technical group events. OSA Technical Groups organized a wide variety of events, including poster sessions, workshops and panel discussions. Photos from select events can be found below.
Microscopy & Optical Coherence Tomography Poster Session
The Microscopy and Optical Coherence Tomography Technical Group held its first student poster session at Frontiers in Optics in October 2015. Over a dozen of students presented their research in the session. After a tight competition, awards were presented to the following students:
1st Prize: Mateusz Szatkowski, Wroclaw University of Technology
Title: Optical vortex scanning microscope and vortex sensitivity
2nd Prize: Brian Bentz, Purdue University
Title: Printed optical phantoms for whole mouse imaging
3rd Prize: Chukwuemeka Okoro, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Title: Mueller matrix second harmonic generation microscopy of breast biopsy
Nonlinear Optics Technical Group Workshop
The Nonlinear Optics Technical Group hosted its first workshop at Froniters in Optics in October 2015. The workshop brought together several panelists to discuss future directions in nonlinear optics. Panelist for this event included Alex Gaeta, Jason Pelc, Claudio Conti and Victor Brasch.
Frontiers in Photonic Detection Panel Discussion
The Photonic Detection Technical Group organized a special event at this year's Frontiers in Optics exploring new directions in the field. The Frontiers in Photonic Detection Panel Discussion featured presentations by Supriyo Bandyopadhyay of Virginia Commonwealth University as well as Varun Verma and Brian Simonds from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
