Honoring Ursula Gibson
Advisor and friend
Submitted by Ms. Amy Phillips friend
Ursula Gibson came to the Optical Sciences Center in Tucson, Arizona when I had just started a graduate program there. Standing in for Dr. Bernard Seraphin while he was on sabbatical, she set a superb example of women excelling in the hard sciences. She was tough, diligent, and unrelenting, while also exhibiting humor and compassion to help the students achieve their full potential. She continues to inspire me all these decades later, and I am fortunate to count her among my good friends.
